HOW TO FEED YOUR BOSTON TERRIER PUPPY

If you are lucky, the breeder from whom you obtained your puppy will have given you a diet sheet, which will help you immensely with your feeding chores. A diet sheet will typically tell you the type of food your puppy has been eating, when he eats, and how to increase his food intake as he ages. Some breeders will even include enough food to get you through a day or two. If possible, follow this original feeding schedule as closely as possible and use the same brand of puppy food for the first few months. This will help avoid any stomach upsets or diarrhea. If you would like to change the brand of food your puppy is eating, do so gradually, slowly mixing the old food with the new food over a period of time until the old food is totally replaced.

If no diet sheet was provided for you, you will have to use the information available about dog food and choose one that is specially formulated for puppies. It should indicate that it is a growth formula as well. If you are undecided about which brand to choose, consult your veterinarian.

How will you know if you have made the right choice? First, take a look at your puppy’s stool. It should be small and firm, not too loose or too dry. A large amount of stool means the food is not being digested. Although it may take a few months to notice, a puppy eating a nutritious diet will have all the signs of good health, including a glossy coat, high energy, and bright eyes. boston terrier puppy pictures
